FaithTech electronic loads possess excellent dynamic performance and expandability, making them highly suitable for dynamic response testing and high-power parallel current sharing testing of AI server power supplies.
For example, the FaithTech FT68200H High Slew Rate Electronic Load Series supports multiple loads simultaneously applying step loads to simulate the instantaneous power consumption changes of GPUs/CPUs during actual server operation, verifying the transient response of the server power supply. The FaithTech FT68200H High Slew Rate Electronic Load supports a current slew rate of up to 96A/μs, far exceeding industry averages, and can accurately replicate the transient power consumption characteristics of computing centers. In high slew rate dynamic tests for AI server power supplies at several renowned major manufacturers, the test waveforms from FaithTech electronic loads were perfect, stably simulating extreme operating conditions for 8 consecutive hours, earning customer recognition.
Below are the specific types of AI server power supplies and the application of core FaithTech source and load testing equipment involved:
Server Power Supply - Power Supply Unit (PSU) / Rectifier Testing
Testing the Power Supply Unit (PSU) for data centers goes far beyond the scope of ordinary consumer product testing; it concerns the stable operation of the entire data center.
The goal is to achieve extreme efficiency, absolute reliability, and comprehensive manageability under extremely high power density to support uninterrupted AI computing power output.
According to the M-CRPS and OCP ORV3 test guidelines, the FaithTech DC Electronic Load FT63200H High Slew Rate Series can meet the requirements for testing PSU parameters and performance. Especially for PSU dynamic load testing, the high-speed dynamic characteristics of the FT63200H electronic load simulate the instantaneous drastic power consumption changes (transient response) during GPU computation, testing the stability of the PSU output voltage to ensure no system restarts or crashes due to voltage drops.
FaithTech provides a complete test solution for server power supply PSUs to simulate operating conditions such as high-speed, wide dynamic range current changes to meet PSU testing requirements. The core source and load configuration is shown in the figure.

Server Power Supply - Integrated Power Shelf / Power Rack Testing
In data center and server architectures, a Power Shelf refers to an integrated power unit, typically installed in a rack, composed of multiple redundant power modules, power distribution units, and management modules. Under the OCP ORV3 standard, a single Power Shelf can provide power output of up to 33kW or even 72kW within a 10U height space.
Core functions of a Power Shelf: ① Centralized power supply and management, increasing power density. ② Supports hot-swapping and redundancy mechanisms to ensure uninterrupted server operation.
FaithTech provides a test solution for Power Shelves that meets the requirements of the OCP ORV3 test guidelines, effectively validating performance and reliability in real-world applications, ensuring they meet high-standard operational demands.
A Power Rack refers to an integrated centralized power supply system that provides power for an entire server cabinet. It typically consists of multiple Power Shelves connected in parallel, with power reaching hundreds of kilowatts.
Its core characteristics include integrating Power Distribution Units (PDU), Battery Backup Unit Shelves (BBU Shelf), monitoring systems, etc., to achieve rack-level efficient power supply and management. Server power supplies for Power Racks have high power, requiring a comprehensive evaluation of test laboratory setup needs.
FaithTech provides customized solutions, covering equipment parallel testing evaluation, on-site equipment power usage and layout recommendations, air/water cooling planning, environmental heat dissipation, and thermal flow analysis. The core source and load instrumentation is as follows:

Server Power Supply - High-Voltage DC (HVDC) Testing
HVDC server power supplies represent a significant evolution in data center power supply technology. By adopting a high-voltage DC power distribution architecture, they greatly enhance energy efficiency, reliability, and power density. Due to the higher operating voltage, testing HVDC server power supplies presents new challenges:
- The front-end PSU needs to handle input voltages up to 800V.
- The back-end PSU (e.g., converting 400V to 50V) still needs to provide extremely high current at low output voltages.
FaithTech is one of the few domestic manufacturers producing a full range of electronic loads and programmable DC power supply test instruments. Its wide-range, high-precision, high-stability characteristics meet the specifications and testing requirements of HVDC server power products.
In particular, the FT68200 high-voltage electronic load maintains sufficient current sinking capability even at a high voltage of 1200V, suitable for testing 50V output power supplies. Additionally, the FTB9000 high-power bidirectional DC power supply features energy-regenerative load functionality, and its dual-range design is well-suited for high-voltage DC test applications at either 400V or 800V.
FaithTech provides a complete test solution for HVDC testing, simulating operating conditions such as fast transient response, load step testing, and fault simulation to meet HVDC testing requirements. The core source and load configuration is shown in the figure.

Backup Battery Unit (BBU) Testing
The BBU in an AI server is a highly integrated system. It is not merely a simple battery but an emergency power supply system integrating battery cells, intelligent management, power conversion, and communication functions.
Its core mission is to provide seamless DC power supply the instant mains power fails. Due to drastic instantaneous load fluctuations, this requires the backup battery to deliver a huge discharge current (high-rate discharge) in a short time and quickly absorb energy (high-rate charge) upon power restoration. The FaithTech FTB9000 bidirectional power supply can simulate such extreme operating conditions, making it easy to build a backup battery unit test solution.
Addressing both the 48V architecture and emerging high-voltage 400V/800V architectures, the FaithTech bidirectional programmable DC power supply can handle BBU charge/discharge performance, BBU switchover time transient response, and grid simulation.
48V Architecture Test Solution:
-
BBU Charge/Discharge Performance
- As a Load: Configure the FaithTech bidirectional power supply in load mode, with constant power or constant current, to perform discharge tests on the BBU, verifying its capacity and discharge time.
- As a Power Source: Configure the FaithTech bidirectional power supply in power source mode to charge the BBU, testing its charge acceptance capability and management strategy.
-
BBU Switchover Time and Transient Response
- As a Power Source: Normally output 48V to simulate the main power supply.
- Use its sequence function or external trigger to instantly turn off the output (simulating a power outage).
- Use an oscilloscope to probe the DC bus voltage, measuring the delay time from power outage to BBU voltage establishment (typically <10ms) and the voltage drop magnitude.
-
Grid Simulation
- Use the List mode of the bidirectional power supply to simulate fluctuations (e.g., 45V to 55V), ripple, or instantaneous dips in the DC bus voltage, testing the operational stability of the BBU under such adverse conditions.
High-Voltage 400V/800V Architecture BBU Test Solution:
-
BBU Charge/Discharge Cycle
- Energy regeneration is crucial. Performing a charge/discharge cycle test on a 400V/10kW BBU without energy recovery would consume 20 kWh per hour, resulting in significant costs. The regeneration function of the bidirectional power supply can feed most of the electrical energy back to the grid. The FaithTech FTB9000 bidirectional programmable DC power supply has an energy regeneration efficiency of 93%, greatly saving costs.
-
BBU Dynamic Load and Transients
- The power consumption rate of AI servers (especially those with multiple GPUs) changes extremely rapidly. Use the high-speed dynamic mode of the bidirectional power supply to simulate kW/ms-level load steps, testing the transient response and stability of the high-voltage architecture. This is particularly important for 800V systems, as higher voltage implies lower current but imposes more stringent requirements on control loop design. The FaithTech FTB9000 bidirectional power supply features high operational precision and fast response speed, making it highly suitable for testing backup battery unit BBUs for AI server power supplies.
